Parramatta Mission Meals Plus Partnership

For many years the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta have provided an annual donation to the Meals Plus program by providing a gift to those in need in honour of the Birthdays of our sisters.

This year, the sisters of Mercy have committed not only to significantly increasing our annual donation to $10,000 per year, but to maintain that level of support for three years.

In supporting the Meals plus program, the sisters of Mercy Parramatta recognise a continuity in the ministry of the sisters who, since arriving in Parramatta in1888, had served meals at the convent door to those in need. Sisters also volunteered in the kitchens at Parramatta Mission and other services for those in need such as Lifeline. 

About Meals Plus*

Meals Plus is the only day centre in Parramatta providing basic needs and support to people who are homeless or disadvantaged. Meals Plus is successfully breaking the cycle of homelessness by providing quick solutions for people in need of emergency support and longer term case management for people who are chronically homeless. Meals Plus is seen as an entry point into Parramatta Mission’s Homeless Services and Family Services.

Meals Plus is open for breakfast and lunch from Monday to Friday. The “Plus” in Meals Plus provides access via trained Case Workers to services such as: emergency food assistance, laundry and shower facilities, financial counselling, legal advice by visiting solicitors, housing advocacy, general health and mental health services, Centrelink outreach service and referral to accommodation services.

Support from Centrelink, Lifeline Financial Counsellors, Homeless Persons Legal Service and the Sydney West Community Outreach Team provides Meals Plus clients with specialist support in a non-threatening, safe environment.

Meals Plus operates largely on a volunteer workforce, with only the Case Workers and Cook being employees of Parramatta Mission.
