"We will open our hearts to the cries of the poor using our energies, gifts and resources to address violence and discrimination especially for women and children..." (Chapter Statement)
Globally, almost one in three women have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their life. In Australia, 1 in 4 women (23% or 2.3 million) have experienced violence by an intimate partner since the age of 15.
The 16 Days of Activism is an opportunity to revitalize commitments, call for accountability and action from decision-makers, as the world approaches the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 2025 – a visionary blueprint for achieving gender equality and women’s and girls’ rights everywhere.
