"Our particular emphasis will be the care of earth, care of the poor and care of each other..." (Chapter Statement)

In Laudate Deum, (the follow-up to Laudato Si'), released on 4 October, Pope Francis asks that those taking part in the COP28 "be strategists capable of considering the common good and the future of their children, more than the short-term interests of certain countries or businesses" (no.60) and invites "everyone to accompany this pilgrimage of reconciliation with the world that is our home and to help make it more beautiful, because that commitment has to do with our personal dignity and highest values."

He continues "At the same time, I cannot deny that it is necessary to be honest and recognize that the most effective solutions will not come from individual efforts alone, but above all from major political decisions on the national and international level."
