"Our particular emphasis will be the care of earth, care of the poor and care of each other." (Chapter Statement)
Initiated by the United Nations in 1990, International Day of Older Persons acknowledges and celebrates seniors and the value they bring into our society while shedding light on the unique challenges they face. This year's theme, “Fulfilling the Promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons: Across Generations”, seeks to enhance the protection of human rights for older individuals worldwide.
In his Catechesis on Old Age 12, Pope Francis reminded us that the elderly "are the memory of the family, the memory of humanity, the memory of the country". He instructed, "Protect the elderly, who are wisdom."
